The Weekly Crumbs #16
Taking a day off, finding a new podcast, and a new winter coat
Hello there! As you’re reading this, I am on a sick day from work. Starting to feel run-down by the end of the year hubbalaloo and colder weather. Ya girl needed a break! I have been tenuously holding to a sense of good cheer the past few weeks, something I’m working quite hard to cultivate day in and day out, but sometimes you need a little something extra. This is only accomplished by getting far too invested in NCIS, scanning Facebook marketplace for more salt lamps to add to the cozy glow, and drinking vanilla rooibos tea whenever I can remember to.
Last week, a good friend wrote a beautiful ode to the darker, colder months of the year that encouraged the reader to think of this as the season of curiosity, instead of resigning to being sad and cold for the next few months. Here are some ways I’m endeavoring to do that (and stay sane while the year wraps up!)
What I’m making
Just made a batch of these cookies, and I’d describe them as a slightly pumpkin-y snickerdoodle. They were gone within 3 days and were perfect with coffee in the morning!
Added this bread variation to my dockit.
Chicken pot pie. Just buy the store-bought pie crust and thank me later, ok? We don’t need to be making pie crust from scratch anymore unless it calls to you. I love Spend with Pennies recipes because we’re stretching our grocery dollar over here. I made a ton of swaps and it still came out great, including buying cream of mushroom soup for the base.
A tree skirt. Eeeek, I’ve been so excited working on this! It’s red felt with white fleece stars on it, then I hand-quilted the layers together, and bound it with white binding. Added three bows down the side to keep it together on the tree. I’ll share photos of it when it’s been put up!
What I’m watching
NCIS. Hello! I can’t believe I haven’t been obsessed with this show before! I had been ravenously listening to the Kathy Reichs audiobooks (which my beloved series, Bones, is based on), and Caleb suggested that I start NCIS. Of course I didn’t think he knew what he was talking about… of course, he did. Love it.
I made a list of classic movies I want to watch. Whose definition of classic? Debatable. Hoping to get them crossed off by the end of this year, but who knows how busy I’ll be watching NCIS. I did check off the first two, Practical Magic and 13 Going on 30, and loved them.
What I’m listening to
I just found the podcast “Well, I Laughed,” and it’s been in my ears nonstop. Perfect mix of parasocial relationship fun (plus, they live in Denver!) and educational.
When I remember to, I like to start my day with some french countryside instrumental jazz music. Niche, I know. Current favorite is Easy Lover by Piero Piccolini. Listen and be transported.
What’s on my wishlist
Alarm clock/sound machine. I love fan sounds, but it gets so cold sleeping with a fan in the winter! Love the look of this one.
The books “The Lunar Year” and “The Mystical Year” by Allison Davies. Unfortunately, neither is at my local library yet. I’d like to get more into the moon and really embrace my witchy side. Yes, I did watch Practical Magic for the first time this year, why do you ask? Plus, celebrating the solstices and seasonal shifts is calling to me lately. Why not try to be more in tune with nature?
20 lb dumbbells. I’ve been following The Playground strength programming by Meredith Witte. Your girl is getting stronger! Time to up my weights and keep building these arm muscles.
Prequel Hand Wrap and Prequel Retinal 0.1%. I love the Prequel skincare line and they just came out with a retinal. I’ve been waiting forever for that, and I’m nearly done with the hand wrap cream I loved so much.
Soft glowy lamps! I’m craving more peaceful, soft lighting, so salt lamps, ricepaper shades, and all that are on my list. Maybe something like this round hanging lamp? Or this round table lamp? Or a diffused floor lamp?
A new winter coat! I had a Columbia jacket but outgrew it. Now to decide… collegiate navy or moonvista for a color?

Collegiate Navy left, Moonvista right. Photo credit =: https://www.columbia.com/p/womens-powder-lite-ii-mid-jacket-2089371.html?color=464 Compression socks. My mom got me a pair of these a few years ago, and I’m obsessed! Plus how cute is this greenish pair?
Thanks for reading along! Anything you absolutley do to get out of a funk/feel refreshed? Are you also an NCIS lover? Let me know in the comments!
Love you, mean it.
Grace
